Trudeau Must Cancel His Carbon Tax Increase

February 01, 2024

Ottawa, ON – After eight years of Justin Trudeau, Canadians are struggling. Nearly two million Canadians used a food bank in a single month last year, while the surging cost of gas, heat, and groceries takes more money out of everyone’s paycheque. That’s why Conservatives have put forward a common sense motion to cancel Trudeau’s carbon hike this year.

The CEO of the Mississauga Food Bank has said that people have come into their facility asking for help in ending their lives, not because they are sick, but because they can’t afford the price of groceries.

Already, a typical family of four will have to pay $700 more in groceries in 2024 compared to last year. On April 1, Justin Trudeau is increasing the carbon tax by 23% as part of his plan to quadruple the tax, increasing the misery Canadian families face. He doesn’t understand that if you tax the farmer that grows the food, and the trucker who ships the food, you tax the people who buy the food. Justin Trudeau just isn’t worth the cost.

Meanwhile, Justin Trudeau and the Liberals continue to work against the common sense Conservative bill, C-234, which would save our farmers a billion dollars in carbon taxes and provide relief to families at the grocery store.

Trudeau’s carbon tax has forced Canadians to choose between heating their home and putting food on the table. Yet, it’s clear that the carbon tax has done absolutely nothing to address climate change. Canada now ranks 62 out of 67 countries, dropping four places from the previous year, according to the Climate Change Performance Index. That’s because the carbon tax is not an environmental plan, it’s a tax plan.

It’s clear that Trudeau must cancel this ineffectual tax increase on Canadians. Only common sense Conservatives will bring home lower prices by axing the tax on everything, for everyone.
